Although not a complete overhaul, Mercedes has decided to freshen up its S-Class for the 2010 model year. And even though the changes may be subtle, the new updates make the S-Class more competitive and more current.
The exterior of the 2010 S-Class remains the same, for the most part. Cosmetic changes include a more pronounced shape for its grill, a new bumper that incorporates LED daytime driving lights, revised headlights and taillights and new door mirrors.
Like the exterior, interior changes are very subtle. The steering wheel is redesigned with a glossy wood finish. High-tech features include a 6.5-inch color display, a revised COMAND system, navigation, Bluetooth connectivity and a Zagat-rating system for local restaurants.
New safety features include an optional Adaptive Highbeam Assist that recognizes vehicles ahead and dims the headlamps, Lane Assist, a new Active Body Control (ABC) system that helps deal with crosswinds and a drowsiness detection monitor that will warn drivers if they’re getting too tired to focus on the road.
The 2010 S-Class line-up will include the 382-hp, V8-powered S550 in both rear- and all-wheel drive spec, along with the 518-hp S63 AMG, the 510-hp S600 and the range-topping, 604-hp S65 AMG. Mercedes promises that its revised engines will require 7% less fuel than before.
