Ever since its release, the original Mazdaspeed 3 has proven to be a small hit for Mazda and, in the process, has earned it a relatively large fan following. Not to disappoint its loyal followers, Mazda has greatly updated its hot compact for a second generation, and has chosen this year’s New York Auto Show to debut it. The wait is over…

The most obvious cosmetic change of the Mazdaspeed 3 over the normal Mazda 3 is the mean-looking hood-scoop and the large wing on its tail-end. Every other change, both on the outside and inside, is subtle, with the Mazdaspeed 3 looking very much like its normal counterpart.

What’s in its name? SPEED! The 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 will use a 2.3L DISI turbocharged powerplant with 263 hp and 280 ft-lbs of torque. This is pretty much the same engine used in the current Mazdaspeed 3 but with more refinement. A re-designed six speed manual transmission with wider gear ratio has been built to handle the demands of the revised motor. The overall engine and transmission setup will allow this new Mazdaspeed 3 to reach a top speed of 155 mph.

To enhance the speed and agility of the 2010 Mazdaspeed3, Mazda has stripped away several amenities present on the normal 3. These include power driver’s seat, heated seats and moonroof. However, for $1,895, the new Mazdaspeed 3 will offer a technology package that includes a 242-watt Bose Centerpoint 10-Speaker Surround Sound system, in-dash 6-disc CD changer with MP3 support, full color MID (Multi-Information Display) with Navigation System, 6 months of Sirius Satellite Radio, Advanced Keyless Entry System, Push Button Start and a Perimeter Alarm.

Production of the 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 is expected to start in Summer/Fall of this year, with prices starting at $23,195. Jump after the photo gallery to get more details from Mazda’s press release.

After reading all features provided by Mazdaspeed 3, I don't think $23,195 is too expensive.

It is a nice car. Mazda is really doing great on the automotive industry. I also read on a newspaper about the features of these car and I have learned that they already enhanced its engines to have more stability. I believe they have enhanced their alternator brackets in order to have better engine performance.

The Mazda is a nice looking car the only thing that I don't like about it is the air filter on the bonnet, the price for the over seas market could be a little hight than that of America, and with the recession could bring down sales at the moment.

I have to say the change is great, but I don't like the hood-scoop, for me it makes the car very masculine, and for me cars are ladies, but I think that is really more for the younger generation, as they seem to like this sporty, mean look.

Wow! Mazda 2010 looks nice and cool. $1,895 tag price is not bad for the technology package that they are offering. By the way, your site is very informative. I am looking forward to more info on Fourby4 vehicles.

That Mazdaspeed is looking hot. They're sure to raise Mazda's profile among young drivers with that aggressive styling. And it's performance figures don't look to bad. Would have been interesting if it was AWD though.

Very nice impovement on speed and hp over last year’s model. I remember when this used to be just another hatchback. Now it’s a freakin race car.
