New 2013 Ford Fusion Energi Plug-in Hybrid Aims for 100 MPGe

2013 Ford Fusion Energi

Joining the promising all-new Ford Fusion lineup for the first time ever is the Fusion Energi, a plug-in hybrid alternative to the standard Fusion sedan and hybrid.

The Fusion Energi promises to be the most fuel-efficient midsize sedan in the world, targeting a fuel-economy rating of 100 MPGe (mile per gallon equivalency metric for electrified vehicles). For some perspective, that is 8 MPGe more than the Chevy Volt and 13 MPGe more than the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid.

Although Ford hasn’t released details on its powertrain, the Ford Fusion Energi likely has at its core the same hybrid system found in the Fusion hybrid. The system combines a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine with a lithium-ion battery…toss in a plug-in mechanism and you get the gist of the technology. The video below points out some of the practical benefits of the Fusion Energi.
