2013 Dodge Dart

Although not officially announced, there is little doubt that a Dodge Dart SRT4 is in the works. The performance-oriented Dart will replace the abysmal Dodge Caliber SRT4 and will likely pack more power.

As certain as we are of an upcoming Dart SRT4, Motor Trend believes Dodge might be at a crossroads regarding the kind of powertrain to offer in the performance sedan. To make the car price-competitive, the company might just add a turbocharger to the existing Tigershark 2.0-liter four; however, in order to compete with the likes of the Ford Focus ST and Subaru WRX STI, in addition to surpassing the Caliber SRT4′s 285-HP, a 300-HP four-cylinder engine (soon to be offered in the Alfa Romeo 4C) seems to make more sense, although that could push the price of the car over the $30,000 mark.

Motor Trend is more certain about the Dart SRT4′s transmission, however. A six-speed dual-clutch transmission will be joined by an upgraded rolling stock, brakes and suspension and a more aggressive aero pack. We’ll have to wait and to see how things shape up.
