If there is one thing that Chrysler’s Super Bowl 45 commercial thought us, it is that the Detroit automaker knows a thing or two about great ads. So how do you follow up on something as solid as “Imported from Detroit”? By bringing the iconic and all-America Clint Eastwood into the picture.
While we wouldn’t go as far as to say that the new commercial, titled “Halftime in America”, is as captivating as the last one, it does sell the same message — overcoming adversity (the recession and unemployment) and rebuilding. The emphasis is less on Detroit and more on the whole country this time around, which helps drive the message into the homes of more Americans.
Where the commercial falls flat is in the promotion of Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles — aside for some grainy clips of the company’s production line, there was none. Consequently, Chrysler’s effort this time around inadvertently succeeds at also promoting its cross-town rivals, Ford and GM. Aside from that, it’s one of the finer commercials to air at this year’s Super Bowl.
