The new 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible was present and accounted for at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. Like the GT500 coupe, the convertible packs the most powerful production V8 in the world.
The Shelby GT500 Convertible is powered by a supercharged 5.8L V8 that produces 650 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque. Using a standard six-speed manual transmission and fitted with the optional Performance Package, the open-top laps the Sebring circuit nearly 3.5 seconds faster than the outgoing model, thanks to all-new chassis tuning and SVT-designed Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers. Buyers can also opt for the upgraded Track Package that adds an external engine oil cooler, rear differential cooler and transmission cooler.
In honor of Ford‘s SVT division’s 20th anniversary, a commemorative lighted sill plate will be offered with the 2013 Shelby GT500.
