Infiniti-Emerg-E

Making its world debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, the Infiniti Emerg-E Concept is Infiniti‘s first shot at a supercar. If produced, it will act as the brand’s halo car.

The Emerg-E is a mid-engined sports car motivated by a range-extended powertrain consisting of two electric motors, a lithium-ion battery pack, four inverters and a three-cylinder gasoline engine that acts as a range extender. The setup produces 402-HP (300kW), allowing for a 0 to 60 miles per hour (96 km/h) run of 4.0 seconds and a 0 to 130 mph (209 km/h) run of 30 seconds.

In pure-electric driving mode and on a full charge, the Emerg-E can travel up to 30 miles (48 km) without a drop of gas; with the help of its gas-powered range-extender, it can travel up to 300 miles (480 km).

“We wanted to explore the excitement and desirability of a true sport car,” says Bert Dehaes, Project Lead Designer. “And because it is an electric vehicle, we also wanted to show its innovation. We produced a lightweight feel that’s sharply cut, like a tailored suit. It fits well with Infiniti’s approach. An EV is pure and clean so the interior is the same, but it’s a friendly interior and ergonomic too, but not brutal.”
