What was once just a report is now official — Porsche has announced plans to offer the Cayenne Diesel in the US and likely Canada. The premium SUV will make its North American debut at the 2012 New York Auto Show.
Scheduled to go on sale in September 2012, the North American Porsche Cayenne Diesel is virtually identical to the one offered in Europe. It packs a 3.0-liter V6 turbo-diesel engine that produces 240 horsepower (179 kW / 243 PS) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque, allowing for a 0 to 60 miles per hour (96 km/h) run of 7.2 seconds, a top speed of 135 mph (217 km/h) and a towing capacity of up to 7,716 lbs (3,500 kg).
U.S. prices for the Cayenne Diesel start at $55,750, excluding a $975 destination charge.
