“We mourn the death of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. As creator of the Porsche 911 he founded a design company in our culture that shapes our sports cars today. His philosophy of good design is for us a legacy that we will continue to do with honor.”
Ferdinand will be remembered for his creative perspective on automotive design, which led to the creation of undoubtedly the most important product in the history of Porsche. The 911 coupe, initially called the 901, has been the poster-child of the German brand since the car’s debut in 1963. Such is the lasting appeal of the man’s design that the 911 has maintained its original shape to this day.
It addition to designing a car many consider one of the most beautiful ever, Ferdinand Porsche also founded the Porsche Design Studio in 1972.
