Sergio Marchionne, CEO of the Chrysler Group, has a whole lot riding on the next generation Jeep Liberty. Well, here is a prototype of the car, all covered up. I don’t know about you guys, but I see a high-rolling Alfa Romeo Giulietta. Let’s just hope this is some sort of mule.
The next-gen, 2014 Liberty will be built off Fiat and Chrysler’s new Compact U.S. Wide platform, which is used for the Dodge Dart sedan. As you probably already know, the Dart is a modified Giulietta underneath, which may explain why the prototype looks so familiar.
The Jeep Compass and Patriot, both car-based crossovers, haven’t exactly lit the sales charts on fire, but Marchionne promises that the Liberty will be completely different (read better), stating that it will be “a trail-rated, full-blooded Jeep that has its origins in the architecture of a sports car.” We’ll be the judge of that in a few years.
