Joining the “11-second” club is the new 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Having earlier lapped the notorious Nurburgring in 7:41.27, Chevrolet‘s performance-tuned muscle car recently completed a quarter mile run in under 12 seconds.
Of the two Camaro ZL1 models that were tested, the one with the automatic transmission recorded the fastest track time, achieving a quarter mile run of 11.93 seconds at 116 mph. The manual-equipped model completed the task in 11.96 seconds at 117 mph.
“The ZL1 is great at everything and we’re very proud of that,” said Tony Roma, Camaro ZL1 program engineering manager. “You can take it to the drag strip and run 11-second quarter-miles all day long.
GM claims that both times were recorded by stock ZL1s sporting factory-issued Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 tires.
