Buick Trademarks Riviera Name

Buick Riviera Coupe

An ambituous Buick has been trying out bold new things as of late (see Encore and Verano). The tri-sheild brand has trademarked the Riviera name, suggesting that an all-new model might be in its future.

The Buick Riviera was last sold 13 years ago. Even in light of the new trandemark, the possibility of an all-new interation of the legendary sports coupe is speculatitive at best. According to GM Inside News, we shouldn’t read too much into the filing, given that automakers have a tendancy of trademarking a host of names for potential use.

Still, an aspiring Buick could use a sports coupe in a lineup that it wishes attracted more young buyers.
