New Mazda3 Hatchback Revealed in Japanese Magazine

The last image of the new Mazda3 we posted turned out to be just a very good render, rather than the real deal. This leaked page from a Japanese magazine does, however, likely reveal the real deal. How do we know? Well, aside from the pictured Mazda3 looking realistic, Mazda commonly gives Japan special treatment when it comes to new model reveals and releases. What we have here is the Japanese-market Mazda Axela.

Like the latest Mazda6, the next Mazda3 won’t disappoint in the looks department.

Sporting Mazda’s new KODO design philosophy, the next Mazda3 is sharp, figuratively and literally. It looks sharp in the nicely-dressed sense of the word, featuring more angular lines and — thanks to Mazda’s design gods — ditches the ridiculous smiley grille of the current model.

The Japanese automaker’s full suite of Skyactiv technologies that optimize fuel-economy, while delivering a sporty ride, will also be an integral part of the new Mazda3 lineup. The current model incorporates just a few of these technologies, most notably the Skyactiv engine and transmission.

As the company’s volume model, the third-generation Mazda3 will play a major roll in Mazda’s goal of selling more than 300,000 cars annually in North America. It will join the Mazda CX-5 crossover and the new Mazda6 sedan as the only models to have fully adopted the KODO design philosophy and Skyactiv technologies.
