The replacement for the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is already under development and will launch in 2015. Called the Z07, the high-performance sports car will be based on the C7 Corvette and will reportedly have some 600 horses to work with.
According to Car and Driver, the Z07 will be powered by a turbocharged or twin-turbocharged small-block V8 that, despite displacing “significantly less” than 6.2-liters, will produce about 600 horsepower. For comparison, the Z06 uses a larger 7.0-liter V8 to develop a less impressive 505 hp.
A seven-speed manual transmission will be used to channel power to the rear wheels, regardless of the engine used. An optional eight-speed automatic is possible but unlikely.
In addition to a more powerful engine, the Z07 will be equipped with Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and larger Michelin tires. Major mechanical updates to accommodate the added performance. We don’t expect any other major updates, considering how well tuned the standard C7 already is.
The Chevrolet Corvette Z07 will go on sale in early 2015 as a 2016 model year vehicle.
