Ferrari 458 Italia

Ferrari has officially revealed its 458 Italia, a mid-rear engined supercar intended to replace the F430. Designed by Pininfarina, the 458 Italia will be powered by an all-new 4.5-liter direct-injection V8 that yields 570HP at 9,000 rpm and 398.2 lb-ft of torque (540Nm) at 6,000 rpm. Eighty percent of this torque is available at a low 3,250 rpm.

Like its predecessor, the 458 Italia’s styling is in large part dictated by aerodynamic efficiency. Weighing just 3,042 pounds, its aluminum structure helps keep weight under control. Ferrari claims that the car generates 309 lbs (140kg) of downforce at 124mph (200km/h).

The Italia’s new V8 engine has the highest output per liter in the company’s production history and is equipped with its seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that channels power to the rear-wheels. The engine and transmission setup launches the supercar from 0 to 62mph (100km/h) in under 3.4 seconds and to a top speed of more than 202mph (325km/h). This will be the first volume production Ferrari V8 to top the 200 mph barrier.

For braking, the 458 Italia uses a feature that the company describes as a “prefill function”, whereby the pistons in the calipers move the pads into contact with the discs on lift off to minimize delay in the brakes being applied. This results in a braking distance of a mere 106 feet (32.5 meters) from 62mph to a standstill.

More information and photos of the 458 Italia will be released as we approach September’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Stay tuned.

Ferrari 458 Italia has good design. Do you know the safety features of this car

  • Speedy

I agree with you, Brandon. Pictures do no justice to the Enzo.

  • Brandon James

I always thought that pictures more or less did the Enzo justice but anyone who's only seen a 430 in pictures will be blown away the first time they see one in the flesh. I have a feeling that the same will hold true for the 458.
