Things have seriously gotten out of hand at Toyota. After the recall of millions of vehicles, the Japanese automaker is now making a voluntary recall of approximately 8,000 four-wheel-drive Tacoma pickups for a problem in the front propeller shaft.

According to Toyota, the crack can form in the rear joint, causing the driveshaft to come loose from the truck.

“Most of the vehicles [included in the recall] are in the pipeline in Toyota’s distribution system or on dealer lots,” said Brian Lyons, Toyota’s head of safety communications.

The recall affects Tacoma models that were produced from mid-December 2009 to early February 2010. Affected owners can contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 for more information; Toyota dealers will perform a ten minute visual inspection of the trucks and will fix the problem free of charge.
