Two-Thirds of all Camaros Sold are V8 SS Models

It must surely be good news for GM that two-thirds (or about 66 percent) of all Camaros sold have been the V8-powered SS model. But the General is not completely happy because it originally hoped that most buyers would go for the more fuel-efficient V6 model, which was intended to help boost the automaker’s Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE).
The Camaro SS is powered by a 420-hp 6.2L V8 and, with a starting price of $31,595, is the most expensive model in the lineup. The V6 Camaro, on the other hand, starts at $23,530. According to Bob Lutz, GM vice chairman, the V6 Camaros cost almost as much to build as the V8 models. GM is making more money with the Camaro SS, so the news is simply bitter-sweet.

Strong character of the GM products make Camaro SS looks very sturdy and tough. GM should make sure this can be a superior product.
yea, no surprise. most people that missed the camaro generation the first time around, will get the big powerplant SS models – as like the others, they are worth more. 6 cylinders do make decent power, unlike before – but hard to pass up the V8.
This news doesn't surprise me. Not a lot of Eco people would be looking at this car.
It also doesn't surprise me that the V6 costs the
roughly the same to produce since it is mostly an engine swap in most cases.
The design is very unique. And the configuration of the vehicle seems very powerful.
GM shouldn't be surprised that more people want the V-8 powered Camaro. If you're going to drive a car that's merchandised as a muscle car, then you want the muscle to go with it.
I agree, i also want the V-8 powered Camaro. it is looks cool and masculine. it is nice car design.
I want to quote your post in my blog. It can?
And you et an account on Twitter?
alexmsk,
Go on ahead. You can quote whatever you want in this post.
Sorry for asking but is there a way to stop spam? My sites are getting hammered recently with spam. I have heard of akismet but that doesn’t do it did you know of another suggestions? : ).
What a surprise! One of the most popular muscle cars in history and the V8 SS models are the big sellers?
The 6 cylinder model is just a bad trade off for the people who are into this kind of car. I say throw a decent sized hybrid engine in it and see what that’ll do. Then you can get the eco warrior with taste going after it. Further the loss of power isn’t such a crappy trade off when you have a fine looking car with positive environmental aspects.
If GM makes it out of the crap hole they’re in, the camero is going to be what brings them out. Good to know that real muscle car enthusiasts are buying them up, not just posers looking to look good.
