Maybach to be Killed

Maybach Landaulet

A recent UK report claims that Maybach will be terminated by parent company Mercedes-Benz. But before a grave is prepared, all three Maybach models — 57, 62 and Landaulet — will receive facelifts this year, but don’t expect anything major. The facelifts will likely just take the form of a new grille and LED lights. The updated models will debut at next month’s Beijing Motor Show.

Ever since the brand was resurrected in 2002, Maybach has suffered from very slow sales. Company bosses have privately admitted that the brand would be wound down as a part of Mercedes-Benz’s decision to take the next-generation S-Class more upmarket. The new S-Class is expected to arrive in 2014, along with a fully updated version of the R-Class.
