We normally don’t report on the top selling cars for a given month, but we had to for the month of June — the results were that wacky. With the disaster in Japan heavily impacting the the manufacturing base of most Japanese automakers, this month’s top-ten was all American, so to speak. Eight of the ten vehicles on the list were from the Detroit 3. As always, the Ford f150 took the number one spot, followed by the Chevrolet Silverado. On the car front, Chevy came out big with the Cruze and Malibu taking the the top spots, followed by Ford with its Focus and Fusion.
Only one Toyota vehicle, the Camry, made the list. Honda had no car on the list. Overall, Chrysler’s sales were up 30%, Ford 14% and GM saw sales increase 10%. But not all Japanese automakers were severely impacted by the Tsunami — Nissan saw its sales go up by almost 12%. Toyota and Honda weren’t so lucky — sales were down in the double digits.
Savour these results while you can because this will be the last time we’ll see such a ranking for a long-time to come. The Japanese are expected to return with a vengeance as they get their production back to normal.
