Opel/Vauxhall Junior Mini Compact in the Works?

2011 Opel Corsa

With an apparent increase in the popularity of premium hatchbacks — thanks in large part to the Mini Cooper and the Fiat 500, many automakers, including Audi and its A1 — have jumped on the bandwagon. Now GM wants wants a piece of the action. The American is reportedly working on a new subcompact for its Opel and Vauxhall brands. The hatchback is tentatively called the Junior and would slot in below the existing Corsa (pictured above) and Agila, offering similar interior dimensions as the Fiat 500.

This small Opel/Vauxhall may debut, with a finalized name, at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show alongside the Astra GTC, Zafira Tourer and another mystery concept. Sales are expected to start in early 2013.
