Ford Mustang Sales Tops the Camaro in May 2010

Since its launch last year, the all-new Chevy Camaro has outsold the Ford Mustang month-over-month, stripping the Blue Oval of its muscle car sales crown. In April, Chevrolet sold a total of 9,150 Camaros, while Ford sold 5,145 Mustang. This gives the Camaro the lead for 2010 with a total 29,907 sold through April compared to the Mustang’s 20,836 units. The Dodge Challenger sells relatively so few that it’s not in contention.

But it’s not over until the fat V8 sings. With May’s sales numbers in, the Mustang has finally outsold the Camaro with a total 10,225 sold versus 8,931 Camaros. But is this a one-time victory or is there more come? We’ll keep you posted.

Ford, Toyota March Sales Soar Due to Incentives

The month of March was characterized by a slew of incentives. Toyota, which is usually tight with its incentives, led the in its effort to redeem dismal sales in the past months as a result of its recall woes. The other manufacturers followed suit. The market–both buyers and autoamekrs–benefited greatly with total U.S. sales soaring by 24% in the month. Toyota saw huge gains, with its sales increasing by 41%. And as we’ve come to know, there is no stopping Ford. The American automaker was right on Toyota’s tail with a 40% sales increase.

GM’s sales increase of 21% was enough for them to retake the top U.S. spot after Ford grabbed it last month for the first time in over ten years. There were laggards, though. The under-performing Chrysler saw an 8% decrease in its sales, being outsold yet again by Nissan, which climbed 43%. Hyundai and Kia rose 15% and 23%, respectively.

March was the strongest month since August and ‘cash-for-clunkers’, despite not living up to analyst’s expectations.There is concern though that this high figure may be artificially inflated, and is not expected to outlast the deals which served as the catalyst to bring people into showrooms.

Ford Mustang Outsells Chevy Camaro in 2009

Despite outselling the 2010 Ford Mustang month-over-month since its release in April, the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro was unable to claim the title as the top selling muscle car of 2009. Chevy sold 61,618 Camaros for the year, compared to Ford’s 66,623 Mustangs.

Ford was able to hold the top spot because of a good sales month in December. The Dearborn automaker sold Ford sold 6,327 Mustangs last month, over 60 percent more than it did in November.

But with a three month late-start, and with bigger sales month-over-moth, the Camaro is the real winner here. The battle was fairly dramatic this time around, but what are your predictions for 2010?

Ford Bucks the Trend: July 2009 Sales up 2%

Ford Motor Co. – including Ford, Lincoln, Mercury and Volvo brands – is quickly turning itself into a success story, announcing good news after good news ever since both Chrysler and GM filed for (and emerged from) bankruptcy. The good news continue – FoMoCo announced a sales increase of 2.4 percent for July 2009 over the same period last year. “The U.S. government’s Car Allowance Rebate System (“Cash for Clunkers”) enabled Ford to post the first sales increase of any major manufacturer in 2009,” said the company in its press release.

By “first sales increase of any major manufacturer“, we’re betting that Ford is talking about GM, Toyota, Honda, Chrysler and Nissan which all posted sales drops for the month. But Subaru, Hyundai and Kia all saw higher increases than FoMoCo.

The Ford brand posted a sales increase of 3 percent mainly due to great sales by the fuel-efficient Fusion and Milan (up 66 and 60 percent), Escape and Mariner (up 94 and 71 percent), Focus (up 44 percent) and Ranger up 65 percent.

On the downside, the much-vaunted Taurus saw it sales drop by a disappointing 57 percent compared to last July’s sales of the outgoing model. The Flex is also down, selling only 3,631 units, breaking the model’s steady growth since its debut. The Ford Mustang, which has enjoyed steady sales, was down 37.6 percent to 6,686 units. Ford Edge sales were down by a small 7.7 percent. The perennial top-seller the, F-Series truck, was down 19 percent.

On the luxury front, Lincoln sales were down 24 percent to 6,672, compared to 8,819 units sold in July 2008. The only model that saw a sales increase was the Town Car, which was up 95 percent to 1,841. The MKX was the second highest sales, selling 1,642 units (down 18 percent). The Mercury brand saw its sales increase by 7 percent thanks to the strong sales of the Milan and Mariner. But the Sable (-84.8 percent to 345 units) and Mountaineer (-30 percent to 403 units) were dark spots.

Volvo recorded the highest increase, with sales rising by 26 percent. The S60 is up up 257 percent to 1,461 units.The V50 and C70 were also bight sports with sales increasing by 50 percent) and 27 percent, respectively are hanging. The XC90, down 45 percent, is the biggest loser.
